The international symposium is organized on the occassion of the regular annual meeting of the International Scientific Commitee for Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage (ISCARSAH).

With a goal to enforce and stress the role of structural engineer in treating historical masonry structures, experts in the field have prepared interesting and valuable papers and presentations on a specific aspect of the problem – assessment and strengthening of historical stone masonry constructions subjected to seismic action.

Topics cover recent advances in analysis and intervention, typological classification, collapse analysis, composite reinforcing materials, comparison of reinforcing materials, examples of assessment and interventions for restoration of historical sites, research programmes and the engineering and public policy issues.

In addition a short presentation will be given on damagas caused to historic building by the most recent and extremly destuctive Abruzzo Earthquake.
